P-Green Solutions will host a session titled “Water Sources of the Third Pole: Securing Springsheds, Recharge Zones and Mountain Water Systems” at the 13th Eastern Himalayan Naturenomics™ Forum (EHNF) 2026 in Guwahati. The session will be moderated by Arun Pandhi, Director, P-Green Solutions, on 1 November 2026, 11:25 AM to 12:25 PM, at IIT Guwahati, the Forum’s Water and Energy day.
About the Forum. Launched in 2013 by the Balipara Foundation, EHNF is a cross-disciplinary platform for dialogue and action on environment, livelihoods and development in the Eastern Himalaya. This year’s theme is The Future of the Third Pole and the Himsagar, and the session sits under the focus area Water Security Beyond Glaciers.
Why springs matter. Glacier retreat dominates the conversation on the Third Pole, but Himalayan water security also depends on rainfall, forested catchments, wetlands and aquifers. NITI Aayog (2018) estimates that about 3 million of India’s roughly 5 million springs lie in the Himalayan region, supporting over 50 million people, and found nearly half of them drying up. Steep slopes, erratic rainfall and land degradation send water off as runoff before it can recharge, so recharge of the springshed, not just new supply infrastructure, is the starting point.
What the session will cover. Drawing on field experience from more than 2,600 springs across the Himalayan and North-East arc, where the approach has been to map the recharge area, build site-specific recharge structures and hand stewardship to community institutions, the discussion will ask:
The proposed alliance. One of EHNF 2026’s action platforms, the Alliance would use scientific mapping of springs and aquifers to restore key recharge zones, map critical springsheds, pilot community stewardship, integrate ecosystem restoration into basin planning, build flood and drought early warning, and blend public, philanthropic and CSR finance with public schemes.
The session aims to leave the room with specific, actionable positions on springshed security in the Eastern Himalaya.
